In the first quarter of 2023 alone, the state government has received over N100b as Federal Allocation, but it remains a mystery how the prosperity government expends the state resources with little or no developmental blueprint to account for it.

The impact of such funds if properly utilized ought to be visible to all in the state and beyond but unfortunately, the reverse is the case. What is rather obtainable in the state is that the governor, his family members and a few persons around the corridors of power live extravagantly on state funds at the expense of the citizens.

Arbitrary and irrelevant projects are constantly being awarded to family members and a few so called Diri loyalists and one of such projects is the Bayelsa Health Insurance Building which was awarded to his wife. This noble initiative was established and successfully administered, years before Gov. Diri’s emergence without an administrative building.

The sad tale currently is that the healthcare system in the state is worse than ever. The Infant/Mother mortality index that was drastically reduced in the state when the BHIS was introduced is now back to the detestable state it was initialy meaning.

Gov. Diri’s focus is on arbitrarily expending state funds and not taking into cognizance the usefulness of projects executed otherwise, why would he award a contract to his wife, to build a gigantic building for a scheme that has nothing more than 10 staffs? Using the state wealth for personal benefits is corruption defined.

The scheme is funded through monthly deductions from every government appointee in the state including civil servants, which the funds were intended to improve the healthcare system in the state for easy accessibility and affordability, rather than awarding projects to enrich family members and friends at the detriment of the citizens.

Bayelsans wish to know where in the law backing the establishment of the scheme where it’s stipulated that funds meant for the scheme be used for the construction of needless office buildings.

Is the state allocation no longer adequate that the governor is deducting appointees salaries including civil servants in the state?

This therefore is a call on Bayelsans to look at the direction of the APC in the forthcoming governorship elections, as the governor and his party has failed woefully in delivering good governance.
