The Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson attended the funeral service of Late Amananaowei of Ofoni Federated Communities, His Royal Highness, Chief Auditor Onakpohor.
Senator Dickson made this known through his official facebook handle, described the deceased as a good man, a great leader, kind, committed, dedicated and loyal member of the Tarakiri Council of Chiefs.
Chief Auditor Onakpohor passed away on the 3rd of January, 2025, in a ghastly motor accident during Senator Dickson’s delegation of Bayelsa West leaders for a New Year visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri at Sampou.
Senator Dickson described Chief Auditor as a good father who lived a life of service to his people and community, as he served as Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ofoni Federated Communities when he was much younger.
The statement read in parts: “I attended the funeral service of the Late Amananaowei of Ofoni Federated Communities, His Royal Highness, Chief Auditor Onakpohor, Ogelle-Owei 1 of Ofoni Federated Communities, who passed on January 3, 2025, as part of our delegation to see the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri while on a reciprocal New Year visit.
“He was a good man and a great leader of his people; a kind, committed and loyal member of the Tarakiri Council of Chiefs. He was a good father who lived a life of service to his people and his community having been Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman when he was younger. We will surely miss him.
“It is unfortunate that he died in the accident caused by the carelessness of the driver, he was the only one who died. “We say God gives and God takes;” No one can question God.
“In my remarks, I thanked the governor, his deputy and the government of the State for the medical support that was given to victims of that accident. I also commended all the doctors, nurses and medical staff who took care of the accident victims.
“I thanked the Paramount and Traditional rulers (the Majesties and Highnesses) and all our people, leaders of the three arms government and opinion leaders who came.
“I particularly thanked the leadership of Bayelsa West Senatorial District, led by Honorable Fyneman Wilson, Chief Suru Oyarede, Torpedo Amananagha, O.O Osusu, who coordinated the Senatorial leadership as they always do.
“I thanked them for the kind donations they made to support the family in the funeral and what the State and other leaders have done. I was happy that the entire state gathered to bid him farewell. He was a good and kind man, and he deserved the honour.
“I expressed my condolences to Ofoni Community, the Tarakiri Chieftaincy Council, the people of Bayelsa West and the State and pray that God should give his family and all of us the fortitude to bear the loss, and to grant his soul eternal rest.
“I also visited the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, who as usual entertained us. I thanked him for his services to our State and for being a loyal Deputy to his boss, the Governor.
“Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo is a good, kind and loyal man and a great servant of our people and the State too. Having brought both of them together as Senators at first, and as Governor and Deputy later, I am pleased that even in a second term, they are working together amicably and moving forward; and I hope that they continue to do so till the end of the term in their service to the State and our people.
