By Preye Bagou, Yenagoa
The Senator representing Bayelsa West under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has commended the Publisher of First Daily Newspaper, Dr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson and his team for effective management of the media institution over the years.
Senator Dickson, who was invited as a guest of honor, made the deserving commendation when he joined other political leaders from the South-South, and beyond to attend the 5th anniversary annual public lecture of First Daily Newspaper.
The federal lawmaker, who thanked all dignitaries who found time to attend the annual public lecture, particularly Bayelsans to show support and solidarity, said there is a great need for Bayelsans to support and encourage one another.
“People should not destroy or pull down others. If you cannot help someone, leave the person alone. God will raise others to support and help them – so don’t destroy them or celebrate the downfall of any Bayelsan,” Senator Dickson added.
Commending Dr. Markson, and nine other of his aides for completing their doctorate degrees, and are doing well in their various endeavors, Senator Dickson urged other Bayelsans, especially the youths to develop themselves in academics to compete professionally in the world.
The former Bayelsa state helmsman, stressed the great need for mostly the youths to develop themselves professionally in academical fields to compete nationally and internationally in the private sector, rather than ending up in government for appointments and patronage.
Senator Dickson’s statement read in parts:
“We need to develop, and encourage our people on a long-term basis, and that is why I place so much emphasis on education, scholarships and schools.
“We must ask ourselves, where are the professionals doing well in the private sector.
“Everyone ends up in government – fighting and pulling down one another. Destroying each other, and bad-mouthing others for political appointments and patronage.
“After four or eight years, they are back to square one, and the cycle continues.
“It’s unfortunate that, young people now have a new pass-time of running down their leaders and benefactors on social media, instead of working hard to develop themselves for the future.
“So, I encouraged Markson and other Bayelsans who are doing well in the private sector to continue striving to excel in the sector, and build others.
