Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Henry Seriake Dickson, has been praised for managing the state’s resources prudently during his time as Governor of the State.

Dickson, who is currently the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, was also applauded for reducing the state’s debt profile owed by previous administrations during his reign.

A social media influencer, Perekeme Oyinkuro, made this known while addressing newsmen of hotnews in Yenagoa the state capital.

Perekeme stated categorically that “any good student of history will remember that there was a global economic recession that greatly affected every economy of the world for years during Dickson reign as Governor.

“During that period, Bayelsa State was managing Federal Account Allocation Committee (Faac) disbursement of N4billion to N6billion as monthly allocations.”

He averred that despite the comparatively low resources of the state, Dickson managed to reduce the debt profile from N230b to N120b, and still empowered about three thousand (3000) appointees which majority of the appointees were youths.

Sometimes, I wonder how Dickson as Governor managed to employ about eight thousand (8000) civil servants, and started the three senatorial district roads, and established model educational institutions across the State.

Factually, he did what no Governor has done in the history of the State, by building the Bayelsa International Airport. All these and more he did amidst limited resources during his reign as Governor.

Perekeme maintained that “Dickson remains a living legend in Bayelsa political history; prudent in managing public resources and political gladiator that must be studied by leaders and younger generations who desire to make an impact in public service.”
