187th Exco: Diri Advocates Politics Of Sustainable Devt
The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday chaired the 187th meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Yenagoa, where key issues concerning governance, development and administration in the state were discussed.
The weekly executive council meeting brought together commissioners, heads of ministries, departments and agencies, as well as other top government officials to deliberate on policy decisions, approve projects and review matters affecting the overall growth and progress of the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Diri appreciated the people of Bayelsa for maintaining peace, unity and orderliness despite the heightened political activities across the state.
He noted that the prevailing peaceful atmosphere had enabled government business and developmental activities to continue without interruption, stressing that the cooperation of the people remained vital to sustaining progress in the state.
The governor urged politicians and citizens alike not to allow politics create division among the people, emphasizing that political engagement should rather serve as a platform for service and development.
According to him, politics must not be seen as a barrier to the existing brotherly and fraternal relationship among Bayelsans, but should instead be used as a tool to foster unity, peace and accelerated development.
“We have conducted ourselves in a way where politics should not be seen as a barrier to our brotherly fraternal relationship. Politics should be a place where we are all gearing up to serve our people and to bring further development to our state,” Governor Diri stated.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to people-oriented policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and advancing infrastructural development across the state.
At the meeting, the Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, presented an Award of Excellence received from National Examinations Council (NECO) on behalf of the governor.
The award was in recognition of Bayelsa State’s distinguished performance in examinations conducted by the council over the 25 years of the examination body’s existence.
Governor Diri dedicated the recognition to the people of Bayelsa and stakeholders in the education sector, noting that the honour reflected the state government’s sustained investment in education and human capital development.
The presentation of the award added a moment of celebration to the council meeting, as members applauded the achievements recorded by the state in the education sector under the present administration.
