APC Adjust HOR Primaries, Maintains Other Dates
The ruling All Progressives Congress has adjusted its timetable for the conduct of the 2027 general election primaries, shifting the House of Representatives primary election from Friday to Saturday while retaining all other previously scheduled dates.
The party announced that the House of Representatives primaries, initially slated for Friday, May 15, 2026, will now hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The adjustment was confirmed in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, who clarified that every other date in the timetable remains unchanged.
According to the revised schedule, the Senate primary election will still take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the State House of Assembly primaries are fixed for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Governorship primaries will hold on Thursday, May 21, 2026, while the presidential primary election remains scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The clarification followed widespread reports and speculations suggesting that the party had made broader changes to its primary election timetable.
However, the APC insisted that only the House of Representatives exercise was affected by the latest adjustment.
The party had earlier reviewed portions of its electoral timetable in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and the revised schedule released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Recall that the party earlier adjustments, affected presidential and governorship primaries as well as screening and appeal dates for aspirants.
Political observers believe the latest shift may have been introduced to allow for better coordination and logistics ahead of the nationwide exercise, especially as party stakeholders intensify consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC has repeatedly assured aspirants and party members that the nomination process remains open, transparent, and in compliance with the party constitution as well as the Electoral Act.
