Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed deep satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the ongoing Nembe-Brass road project, describing the landmark infrastructure as a dream gradually becoming reality for the people of the state.

Hotnews gathered that the governor made the remarks on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the 21-kilometre first phase of the historic road project, which is designed to connect Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas by road for the first time in the state’s history.

Speaking after assessing the level of work done, Governor Diri said he was fulfilled to see tangible progress on a project that many had considered impossible due to the challenging terrain of the area.

“I feel accomplished. It is one thing to have the vision and another thing to have the will to do it,” the governor stated.

According to him, the Nembe-Brass road remains one of the most strategic projects undertaken by his administration, not only because of its economic significance but also because of its social and security benefits.

Governor Diri noted that his administration had consistently met its financial obligations to the contractor, Setraco Nigeria Limited, and expressed confidence that the company would reciprocate by delivering the project within the agreed timeline.

“I will always hold the company to their date. Financially, we have never disappointed them and I believe they will not disappoint us,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the completion of the road would significantly transform the lives of residents of Brass and surrounding communities, ending decades of dependence on water transportation as the primary means of access.

He further highlighted the security implications of the project, noting that the road would contribute to reducing incidents of sea piracy and other criminal activities that thrive on the area’s difficult accessibility.

“By the time the road is completed, it will reduce cases of sea piracy,” Governor Diri said.

Describing the project as a long-awaited aspiration of the people, the Bayelsa helmsman stressed that the road would unlock enormous economic opportunities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and strengthen social and commercial ties between communities.

“Being a Bayelsan, the importance of this road cannot be overemphasized. This is what the people have been yearning for and my happiness is that the people are happy,” he added.

The Nembe-Brass road project is widely regarded as one of the most ambitious infrastructure undertakings in Bayelsa State, given the swampy and riverine nature of the terrain.

The project is expected to enhance connectivity, boost investments, and stimulate economic development across the coastal axis of the state.

Earlier, the Area Manager of Setraco Nigeria Limited, Mr. Joajoa Cosme, assured the governor and the people of Bayelsa State that work was progressing steadily and according to schedule.

Cosme disclosed that the company was committed to delivering the first phase of the project by December this year, provided weather conditions remain favourable and work continues unhindered.

He reaffirmed Setraco’s dedication to maintaining high engineering standards while ensuring timely completion of the project.

The assurance from the contractor further reinforces hopes among residents and stakeholders that the long-awaited road link between Nembe and Brass is nearing realization, marking a significant milestone in Bayelsa State’s infrastructural development journey.

With construction advancing steadily and government support remaining strong, the Nembe-Brass road project is increasingly becoming a symbol of determination, vision, and the drive to open up previously isolated communities to greater economic and social opportunities.
