My Choice Of Akpe As Deputy Was Guided By God — Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has affirmed that he made the right decision in choosing Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe as his Deputy, describing him as a “square peg in a square hole.”

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri stated this on Sunday at a grand reception organised by the people of Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area to honour Akpe.

The Governor said the massive turnout at the event demonstrated the love, acceptance and solidarity enjoyed by the Deputy Governor among his people.

He commended the Ebedebiri community and the Tarakiri Kingdom for celebrating their son and promoting unity.

Governor Diri described Dr. Akpe as a humble, loyal and capable deputy who has identified strongly with his roots and the people.

He said Akpe’s emergence and acceptance had further confirmed that his decision was guided by God.

The governor said, “I believe I made no mistake when I zeroed in on Akpe. Today’s event is a confirmation of my decision in appointing him as my deputy. It is one thing to announce the appointment of a person and it is another for that person to be accepted and celebrated.”

He urged the people to continue supporting initiatives that promote development, unity and peaceful coexistence while shunning divisive tendencies.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, Ph.D, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Diri for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve the state.

He also appreciated his family, Ebedebiri community, traditional rulers, legislators and religious leaders for their support.

Dr. Akpe said working with Governor Diri had taught him valuable lessons in accommodation, patience and peaceful disposition towards others.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri, commended Governor Diri for choosing Akpe as his deputy, noting that the Deputy Governor had acquired extensive experience in governance through his service in various capacities.

Lokpobiri listed Akpe’s previous positions as councillor, administrator, Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Chief of Staff at Government House and now Deputy Governor.

He said the people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District were proud of Akpe’s performance and pledged continued support for Governor Diri and his deputy.
