2027: Diri Urges Peaceful, Issue-Based Campaigns

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on politicians and supporters across the country to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing the need to respect differing political opinions.

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri made the call on Wednesday during the 195th State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, and at the flag-off of the South-South chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement held at the Oxbow Lake in Yenagoa.

The Governor said democracy thrives on plurality of opinions and urged members of the movement to emulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s democratic ideals by adopting persuasion rather than hostility in political engagements.

According to him, those with contrary political views should not be regarded as enemies but should be convinced through dialogue and constructive engagement.

Governor Diri expressed confidence that Nigerians, particularly those in the South-South region, would support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, noting that the President deserved another term to consolidate on the achievements of his administration and strengthen the foundations for national development.

He commended the grand patron of the movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), for championing the initiative and contributing to efforts aimed at mobilising support for the President.

The Bayelsa Governor also highlighted President Tinubu’s democratic credentials, recalling the free and fair conduct of the 2023 Bayelsa governorship election and the recent governorship poll in Osun State. He congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his electoral victory.

Governor Diri further urged the leadership of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement to remain inclusive and focus on issues that would advance the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasising that politics should be centred on ideas and development rather than division.

He noted that the South-South region remains a critical component of national progress and called on citizens to work together in support of initiatives that promote unity, democracy and sustainable development.
