By Preye Bagou, Yenagoa
As the November 11th gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state gets closer, it is no longer news that political heavyweights in various wards and local government areas has made their preferred governorship candidate known, irrespective of political party affiliation.
It is on record that this is the first time in the political history of the state, where political heavyweights will declare their total support for an opposition party governorship candidate, due to the personality of the party governorship candidate.
It is no longer news that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, has been abandoned by his kinsmen in Brass and Nembe, due to his selfish and self-centered nature of politicking in recent times.
Political heavyweights such as, Hon. Gabriel Jonah, aka Otita Force, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, aka Okpo 1, Sen. Nimi Barigha Amange, Hon. Helen Bob, others has openly declared their total support for Senator Douye Diri, the governorship candidate of the ruling opposition party, the PDP.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, had gathered unprecedented massive support from the opposition party, the APC, due to his style of leadership and governance in the past few years.
The governorship ambition of Chief Timipre Sylva, has become a shadow of itself, as he is rejected and abandoned by his kinsmen, political allies and associates, which some people describe it as karma working against his ill-conceived governorship ambition.
Recall that a lot of political interests played out in the 2019 governorship election between Senator Douye Diri of the PDP and Chief David Lyon of the APC. Some people believes that Chief Timipre Sylva, sold out David Lyon’s chances of becoming the Governor of Bayelsa State.
It is on record that Sylva as Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, fought so hard to terminate the surveillance contracts of Chief David Lyon, Hon. Gabriel Jonah, others in order to continue to have total control over them in the party, the APC, which is working against Sylva today.
Sylva who worked for former Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan to emerge as presidential candidate of the APC, and further worked against President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election, had been abandoned by the national leadership of the party.
Sources reveals that Sylva has been restricted from having access to the presidential villa to meet with President Bola Tinubu, on several occasions especially on Friday last week when he tried having access to see the president to congratulate him on the supreme court victory.
It is believed that majority of the APC members, supporters running around the party governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, are only doing so to cash out with the election funds and ensure Sylva’s total failure in the November 11th gubernatorial election, as a form of revenge.
From all indications, Chief Timipre Sylva’s ill-conceived governorship ambition had been rejected and abandoned by his kinsmen, political allies, party leadership and well-meaning Bayelsans, due to his cruel style of leadership and track record over the years.
Sylva’s total failure in the November 11th gubernatorial election, is very obvious and inevitable considering the unprecedented massive support base of the sitting Governor, Senator Douye Diri. Bayelsans are pleased with Diri’s administration.
