Dickson Attends Senate Comm. Public Hearing On Police Institutions Bill
Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson attended the public hearing on the Police Institutions Bill before the Senate Committee on Police in FCT, Abuja.
The federal lawmaker made this known through his official facebook handle, described the public hearing on the police institutions bill as a great step in the right direction towards reforming and restructuring the welfare of police officers.
Senator Dickson stated that he is a policeman, and will continue to remain so until the end, noting that police officers deserves better care and attention in terms of welfare from the federal government.
He said the Nigeria Police Force needs good training institutions that will be funded from the national budget, just like the way the institutions of the armed forces and other security agencies are funded.
Senator Dickson commending the
Chairman and Members of the Senate Committee on Police on the progress of the passage of the bill, said police training institutions are now shadow of themselves due to lack of funding from the government.
After passage of the bill, he urged the Chairman and other members of the Senate Committee on Police to face the issue of Police Pension Reforms for a better, well-motivated and well-trained Police Force.
The statement read in parts: “I attended the public hearing on the Police Institutions Bill before the Senate Committee on Police, which I am a member.
“I said I am a policeman and I will remain so until the end; and that Police officers and men need better care and attention.
“The Police deserves good training institutions that are funded from the National Budget, the way the institutions of the armed forces and other security agencies are funded; not on a discretionary basis, but direct funding from the budget.
“This is why I will continue to mobilise support for the reform of the Police Training Institutions, because a police officer or any public officer is as good as the training the person receives.
“I went through these trainings almost 40 years ago, and most of these institutions are now a shadow of themselves, and the police needs the support of all and I am happy that the Chairman and members of the committee and the Senate are favourably disposed to the passage of this Bill.
“After these institutions, we should face the issue of Police Pension Reforms which I am also spearheading and supporting.
“Nigeria deserves a better, well-motivated and well-trained Police force.
