Bayelsa @30: Diri Unveils Logo, Rewards Designer N3m

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has unveiled the official logo for the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state, with the theme, “Bayelsa @30: Celebrating Legacies.”

Governor Diri unveiled the logo on Wednesday during the 197th meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Yenagoa, alongside the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.

The Governor commended the ministry for providing young Bayelsans with the opportunity to showcase their creativity through the logo design competition, describing the initiative as another demonstration of his administration’s commitment to participatory governance.

He praised the ingenuity of Bayelsan youths and urged them to remain creative, industrious and focused on developing scientific and technical skills, particularly as the world advances into the era of Artificial Intelligence.

Governor Diri also expressed reservations over the disqualification of AI-generated entries, saying the technology had become an important part of the modern world and that creativity should be encouraged as Bayelsa moves into the AI age.

Earlier, Commissioner Koku-Obiyai presented the five finalists to the governor and council.

She said the winning concept reflects Bayelsa’s three decades of resilience, culture, oil and gas heritage, aquatic identity and the indomitable Ijaw spirit.

According to her, the ministry received 465 entries during the 10-day competition, with more than 350 identified as AI-generated.

Godwill Ayibakepre Waribugo emerged winner of the competition and received the N3 million grand prize, while Prosper Jerome, Daniel Youdeowei, Ibo Tamarapreye and Success Azibapu Eligha each received N150,000 consolation prizes.

The anniversary logo is expected to serve as a major symbol for activities marking Bayelsa State’s 30 years of existence.
