Gov. Diri Bags Education Ambassador Award Of Independent Newspapers

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has bagged the Independent Newspapers’ Platinum Education Ambassador Award for the positive outcomes of his administration’s reforms in the education sector.
Three of Nigeria’s foremost political leaders and icons of free education – Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (represented by his wife, Prof. Uche Azikiwe), and Sir Ahmadu Bello – were also honoured posthumously.
The high-profile event was organised on Thursday by Independent Newspapers at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos in commemoration of 70 years of Free Universal Primary Education (UPE) in Nigeria and as part of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Gov. Diri, represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, affirmed that the recognition and accolades were due to the positive outcomes of the reforms in the state education sector.
“We have also been attracting, encouraging recognition and accolades.It is gratifying that our administration’s effort to reposition and uplift education in Bayelsa State is being acknowledged.”
“The idea of celebrating education ambassadors resonates well and I commend the organisers. Education remains the bedrock of societal development. As a priority, our administration places a high premium on initiatives that advance our state’s progress educationally.”
“The recent high performance of our students in national examinations is an affirmation of such effort. Following his excellent performance in the West Africa School Certificate examination, Master Numa Precious Keme from Ido Comprehensive Secondary School, Egbemo-Agalabiri, was nominated for the 2024 Vatebra Merit Award for Best Overall Male Candidate for Public Secondary Schools by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). ”
“Our state’s performance ranking has equally moved to the top five bracket in recent examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).The indicators are positive and we will not relent.”
