Celebration As Bayelsa State Polytechnic Holds Maiden Convocation Ceremony
The Bayelsa State Polytechnic Aleibiri has recorded a historic and memorable milestone on Saturday as the state-owned tertiary institution held its maiden combined convocation ceremony at its permanent site in Aleibiri town, Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Hotnews reports that the event marked a major milestone in the institution’s academic journey since its establishment in 2014, and the commencement of academic activities during the 2019/2020 academic session.
The convocation ceremony brought together government officials, traditional rulers, education stakeholders, students, parents, and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the polytechnic and its graduating students.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, described the occasion as a significant step in the state government’s commitment to advancing science, technical, and vocational education aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for self-reliance and national development.
Governor Diri expressed delight over the successful formal relocation of the institution to its original site in Aleibiri, noting that the development reflects the government’s determination to strengthen educational institutions across the state.
The Governor also commended the Polytechnic for securing full and interim accreditation approvals from the National Board for Technical Education for all programmes presented before the regulatory body.
According to him, the achievement demonstrates the institution’s growing academic standards and readiness to compete favorably with other higher institutions in the country.
He congratulated the Governing Council, management, academic and non-academic staff, as well as the students, for what he described as a remarkable success story and a testament to dedication, resilience, and hard work.
Governor Diri particularly celebrated the 413 graduands who were awarded National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates after being found worthy in character and learning.
“As a government, while I acknowledge the support of Tetfund, other intervention agencies, and the host community, we will continue to invest in the infrastructural development of the institution to enable it to meet its core objectives,” the governor stated.
In furtherance of the administration’s commitment to the institution’s growth, Senator Diri announced that relevant ministries and government agencies had been directed to immediately implement several developmental projects and promises made to the school.
The projects include the provision of two coaster buses, perimeter fencing of the Polytechnic, construction of additional classrooms, and other basic facilities necessary for effective teaching and learning.
“That is our commitment,” the governor assured.
Governor Diri also reserved special commendation for the Rector of the Polytechnic, Wisdom Clinton Soreh, applauding his steadfastness, visionary leadership, and dedication in the pioneering efforts to build and stabilize the institution.
“I appreciate your steadfastness and dedication in this pioneering effort to build the institution, and I say congratulations on the success story,” the governor added.
The maiden combined convocation ceremony has reshaped the face of the institution as the state government reiterated commitment to building better infrastructure for conducive learning environment to enhance educational advancement through technical and vocational education.
