Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving and awarding the phase two section of the historic Nembe-Brass road project to connect riverine communities to other regions.

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri made the commendation during an inspection visit to the ongoing Nembe-Brass road project, where he assessed the pace, quality, and level of work being carried out by the contractors handling the strategic infrastructure.

Speaking during the visit, the governor said the federal government’s decision to proceed with the second phase of the road project demonstrated President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development and national integration.

According to him, the approval would accelerate the realization of a long-standing dream of providing uninterrupted road access to communities in the Nembe and Brass axis of the state.

Diri noted that for decades, residents of the affected coastal communities relied heavily on water transportation, making movement of people, goods, and services difficult and expensive.

He emphasized that the completion of the Nembe-Brass Road would transform the economic fortunes of the area, stimulate investment, and open up vast opportunities for commerce, tourism, and industrial development.

The governor stated that the award of the second phase of the project was a clear indication that the federal government recognized the strategic importance of Bayelsa and the Niger Delta region to the nation’s economy.

“I wish to sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving and awarding phase two of the Nembe-Brass road. This project is of immense importance to our people, and the President has demonstrated goodwill and commitment towards the development of Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta region,” Diri said.

He further commended the president for the infrastructural strides recorded since assuming office, noting that several ongoing projects across the country reflected a determination to improve connectivity, enhance economic growth, and provide critical infrastructure needed for national development.

According to the governor, infrastructure remains one of the most effective tools for driving economic progress, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life of citizens.

He therefore urged sustained collaboration between the federal government and state governments in addressing developmental challenges facing various parts of the country.

During the inspection, Diri expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being executed on the project and praised the contractors for maintaining a commendable pace despite the challenging terrain of the riverine environment.

He stressed that the Nembe-Brass road remains one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Bayelsa’s history, adding that its completion would permanently alter the socio-economic landscape of the state.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote development and improve the welfare of the people.

He assured residents that his government would continue to monitor the project closely to ensure that standards are maintained and timelines adhered to.

Community leaders and residents who accompanied the governor during the inspection, expressed optimism about the progress of the project and applauded both the federal and state governments for their commitment to delivering the road.

Many stakeholders from Nembe-Brass has described the project as a long-awaited intervention that would enhance mobility, boost economic activities, reduce transportation costs, and strengthen ties between communities that have remained largely isolated for generations.

As work progresses on the ambitious project, stakeholders remain hopeful for the successful completion of the Nembe-Brass road, and a development widely regarded as a game-changer for the state and the wider Niger Delta region.
