Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has assured that his administration will carefully study the recommendations of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Reconciliation Committee and engage in broad consultations before taking necessary steps toward implementation.

Receiving the committee’s report on Friday in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri expressed confidence that its recommendations would promote peace, unity, stability, and reposition the Ijaw nation for greater relevance in Nigeria.

Hotnews reports that the Governor commended the eight-member committee, inaugurated on May 26, 2026, for completing its assignment within the one-month timeline, describing the report as a roadmap for restoring trust and strengthening the INC.

He emphasized that the Congress remains the foremost institution representing the identity and aspirations of the Ijaw people.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the committee and former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Dr. Mathew Seiyefa, said the committee consulted contestants in the disputed INC presidential election, members of the electoral committee, the INC executive, and other critical stakeholders across the Ijaw nation.

Dr. Seiyefa noted that stakeholders overwhelmingly desired a renewed, inclusive, and more consultative INC capable of effectively championing the interests and aspirations of the Ijaw people devoid of divisive tendencies.
