Bayelsa @30: Thanksgiving Service Kicks Off Anniversary Activities
The Bayelsa State Government has commenced activities marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state with an inter-denominational thanksgiving service held at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa.
Hotnews reports that the service brought together top government officials, religious leaders and other stakeholders to thank God for Bayelsa’s journey since its creation on October 1, 1996, by the administration of the late General Sani Abacha.
Representing Governor Douye Diri at the service, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, stated that the 30th anniversary was an opportunity for the people to appreciate God for the progress recorded over the years while reflecting on the challenges and prospects of the state.
Dr. Akpe said Bayelsa had made significant progress from where it was at creation, but stressed the need to accelerate the pace of development and collectively reposition the state for greater achievements.
Speaking on the achievements of the Prosperity Administration, he highlighted infrastructure development, noting that more than 85 per cent of communities had been impacted by government projects since 2020.
He listed the construction of internal roads, expansion of road networks and completion of abandoned projects as some of the administration’s key interventions, stressing that public resources must be judiciously utilised for the benefit of Bayelsans.
In his sermon titled “Help From God,” the guest preacher, Pastor Kontei Krinya, emphasised humanity’s dependence on divine assistance, noting that individuals and institutions require help at different stages of life.
He urged Bayelsans to continue looking to God for guidance, peace and sustainable development as the state celebrates three decades of existence.
The thanksgiving service featured prayers for peace, economic sustainability and accelerated development, setting the tone for the grand 30th anniversary celebration scheduled for October 1.
