Hot News reports that the joint committee of the national assembly on electoral matters, concluded deliberations on the amendment of the Electoral Act for improved democratic and constitutional electoral processes in the country.
Senator Dickson who chaired an earlier joint committee meeting in Lagos, said the committee had concluded deliberations on the amendment of the Electoral Act, and adjourned to reconvene in Abuja.
He said the joint committee had earlier agreed to invite the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and its national commissioners, including legal staff and consultants to assess various proposals by the joint committee.
“We invited staff of the electoral body, INEC, to cross-check our various proposals for us to agree, and conclude the discussions to enable us present the finalized bill for consideration to the plenary of both chambers as soon as possible.
“We had a fruitful deliberation, and in no distant time, Nigerians would see how the national assembly will begin discussions on the proposals.
“We hope to provide a more robust legal framework for the conduct of transparent elections in the country,” Senator Dickson stated.
