Dickson Calls For Appropriate Actions Against Cameroonian Security Officials In Bakassi
By Preye Bagou, Yenagoa
Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to take against Cameroonian security officials.
The federal lawmaker made this known through his official facebook handle, stressed the great need for the Nigerian authorities to take appropriate actions against the security officials in Bakassi areas.
Dickson who made contributions on the issue during senate plenary on Monday, disclosed that the issue was one of the pertinent issues that the leadership of the Niger Delta raised with President Bola Tinubu during a courtesy visit last week.
“At the end of the deliberations, a seven-member committee was set up, and if properly addressed by the authorities, it will help the people and communities in the Bakassi areas in Akwa-Ibom and Cross-River States,” he added.
The statement read in parts: ”Today at the Senate plenary, I was recognised to make contributions on the motion highlighting the plight of the people of Bakassi and its environs in the hands of the Cameroonian security officials, and the need for the Nigerian authorities to take appropriate actions.
“As I said on the floor, this was one of the matters that the leadership of the Niger Delta raised with the President last week, and we expect that this motion will again express our concerns and enable the Federal Government and the President to take appropriate actions.
“At the end of the deliberations, a seven-member committee was appointed, of which I was made a member. We hope to go into these issues and turn in a report that, hopefully, will be helpful to the people and the communities in the Bakassi area, in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States and other persons displaced as a result of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement and agreements.
