Diri Commends Tinubu For Coastal Highway, Nembe-Brass Road, Tax Waiver

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda administration, declaring that his conviction is rooted in the President’s genuine commitment to advancing development in the Niger Delta, particularly Bayelsa State.

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri made the declaration during the launch of the Federal Government’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Penetration Initiative, tagged: “A Decade of Gas” with a target of 27,000 beneficiaries drawn from the eight local government areas of the State, held at the Banquet hall, Government House in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri stated this on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while speaking on the growing partnership between the Federal Government and the Bayelsa State in the execution of critical infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the State’s economic fortunes.

According to the Governor, his support for the President is based on tangible actions rather than political sentiments, noting that the Tinubu administration has demonstrated sincerity in addressing long-standing developmental challenges confronting the Niger Delta.

“My conviction to support the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda is borne out of his genuine drive to support developmental efforts in the region, particularly in Bayelsa State,” Governor Diri stated.

He explained that the President has earned the confidence of many people in the region through deliberate policies and landmark projects that have the potential to unlock economic opportunities and improve the quality of life of the people.

Governor Diri highlighted the commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Nigeria’s history, describing it as a strategic investment that would enhance connectivity, boost commerce, promote tourism and stimulate economic growth across the coastal states.

The Bayelsa Governor also commended President Tinubu for approving the second phase of the historic Nembe-Brass Road project, describing the decision as a major breakthrough in the quest to permanently connect riverine communities to the rest of the country.

According to him, the continuation of the road project is a testament to the federal government’s commitment to ending decades of infrastructural isolation experienced by many communities in Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta.

Governor Diri further applauded the President for granting a tax waiver on imported gas turbine components for Bayelsa state’s power project, noting that the gesture would significantly ease the financial burden associated with the completion of the state’s electricity infrastructure.

He said the tax relief underscores the federal government’s willingness to support Bayelsa’s efforts to improve electricity generation and provide reliable power supply that would stimulate industrial growth, attract investments and create employment opportunities.

“Our President has demonstrated that he is a friend of the region with the commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, the award of the second phase of the historic Nembe-Brass Road project and the tax waiver to our imported gas turbine components,” the governor emphasized.

Governor Diri noted that development should transcend political affiliations, stressing that leaders must always prioritize the welfare of the people above partisan considerations.

He maintained that constructive collaboration between the federal government and state governments remains essential for accelerated national development, particularly in areas requiring massive infrastructure investments.
