Dr. Akpe’s Administrative Competence, Experience, Knowledge Strengthening Prosperity Administration

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, has demonstrated his years of administrative, legislative and political experience to the implementation of the Prosperity Administration, providing additional depth and institutional knowledge to the state’s governance structure.

Before becoming Deputy Governor in February 2026, Dr. Akpe had served in several capacities, including as a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly (Majority Leader), Commissioner, Deputy Chief of Staff, Acting Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

He also spent years in the public service, learning extensive exposure to government administration and policymaking processes in effective service delivery to the people.

His appointment according to the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, was guided by considerations of continuity, competence, commitment, character – as someone who will contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Bayelsa State.

Since assumption in office, Dr. Akpe’s understanding of government processes and familiarity with the machinery of the state, have positioned him to complement the Governor’s leadership in areas requiring effective implementation of government programmes.

Governor Diri publicly commending Dr. Akpe’s competence and capacity in governance, described his choice as one that has strengthened the administration, while Dr. Akpe has also acknowledged learning from the Governor’s approach of unity, peace and inclusive leadership in the state.

The prosperity administration focus on infrastructure, human capital development and economic growth, Dr. Akpe’s combination of academic training, legislative experience and public-sector administration, provides an additional layer of experience to the government’s efforts to translate policies into tangible achievements.

In this regard, the Deputy Governor’s role represents not only constitutional partnership with the Governor but also the application of accumulated knowledge and experience toward the continued consolidation of the Assured Prosperity Administration.
