Flooding: Diri Resumed Academic Activities In Public Schools Without Renovation & Fumigation, Says The Government Is Clueless
A Public Commentator, Comrade Perekeme Oyinkuro has condemned in strong terms of the resumption of academic activities in primary and secondary public schools without renovation and fumigation by the Bayelsa State Government led by Senator Douye Diri.
Recall that the recently receding devasting flood greatly affected many States across the Country, including Bayelsa which is one of the top most greatly affected States by the unprecedented devasting situation caused by the ravaging flood that destroyed properties, businesses and farmlands.
Comrade Perekeme in an interview with newsmen of hotnews in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital described the unprecedented flood as first of its kind in history, stressing that the negative impacts of the devasting flood in the lives of the people of the State cannot be understated and over-emphasized.
He stated that the ravaging flood which flooded almost every public primary and secondary schools in the State, which some dangerous reptiles such as snake found comfort in the buildings of most public schools which there was a great need for proper fumigation before resumption of academic activities in the schools.
Comrade Perekeme further stated that the ravaging flood greatly affected the buildings of most public schools across the State, adding that teaching materials in some schools were destroyed which there was a great need for renovation of the buildings and replacement of teaching materials in the affected schools before resumption.
“Every responsible government will take proactive measures in renovating and fumigating the affected public schools before resuming academic activities with the sole purpose of protecting the lives of pupils and students in the affected public schools across the State.
He described Governor Douye Diri’s decision of public schools resumption without renovation and fumigation of affected public schools, as a deliberate act of endangering the lives of pupils and students in different public schools across the State, which is totally condemnable.
Comrade Perekeme described the prosperity administration as a government without vision and direction in improving important sectors in the State, stressing that educational and health facilities are in a dilapidated state since the beginning of the prosperity administration.
He urged Douye Diri to swing into action immediately to fumigate and renovate all affected public primary and secondary schools across the state, adding that the least Douye Diri can offer Bayelsans, is to ensure that the requisite facilities are in place to enable a quality learning environment.
