Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace, security and cooperation with security agencies operating in the state, describing inter-agency collaboration as essential to protecting lives and property and promoting sustainable development.

Hotnews reports that the Governor gave the assurance yesterday when he received delegations of top security commanders in Bayelsa State at the Governor’s Conference Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.

The delegations comprised the Nigerian Air Force Mobility Command, led by the Air Officer Commanding, Air Vice Marshal Michael Nnaye Onyenashi; the Central Naval Command, led by the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Suleman Ibrahim; the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, led by its Commander, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo; and the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, led by the General Officer Commanding, Major General Ifeanyi Okoro.

Governor Diri expressed appreciation to the various security formations for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Bayelsa State.

He acknowledged the contributions of the military and other security agencies to maintaining peace and stability in the state, noting that their continued cooperation with the state government and other levels of government remained important to sustaining the prevailing security situation.

According to the Governor, the cordial relationship between his administration and the security agencies has continued to provide a foundation for addressing security challenges and creating an atmosphere conducive to economic activities, investment and infrastructure development.

He assured the visiting commanders that the Bayelsa State Government would continue to support their operations to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

“Thank you for acknowledging our efforts in the development of our state. We will continue to support your efforts to enable you to carry out your duties seamlessly. Once again, we welcome you officially to our state,” Governor Diri said.

The Governor’s remarks underscored his administration’s emphasis on partnership with security institutions as a means of strengthening public safety and preserving the peace necessary for the continued development of the state.

Bayelsa, which occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s oil and gas-producing Niger Delta region, requires effective cooperation among security agencies to protect residents, critical infrastructure and economic assets.

The activities of the military and other security formations are therefore important to addressing security concerns and supporting a stable environment for communities and businesses.

The involvement of the Nigerian Air Force Mobility Command, Central Naval Command, Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, and the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army also highlighted the importance of coordination among the different military formations operating within and around the state.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the state government and the security commanders to reaffirm their shared commitment to cooperation and the protection of the people.

Governor Diri was joined during the engagements by the member representing Sagbama Constituency 2 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Security, Lt. Col. Benard Kenebai (Rtd.); the member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1, Hon. Ayebanengiyefa Egba; and the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty King Bubaraye Dakolo.

Others present included the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Elders Council, High Chief Boma Sperrow-Jack; the Chief Security Coordinator and Coordinator of the Bayelsa Community Safety Corps, Brigadier General Eric Angaye (Rtd.); and other members of the Bayelsa State Executive Council.

The presence of government officials, traditional institutions and security coordinators at the meeting reflected the importance of a collective approach to security, involving government, military formations, community leaders and other stakeholders.

Governor Diri reiterated his administration’s readiness to sustain its relationship with the security agencies, with the objective of preserving peace, protecting lives and property, and maintaining the stable environment required for the continued growth and development of Bayelsa State.
