Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged newly wedded couples to build their marriages on love, forgiveness, tolerance and mutual understanding.

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri gave the advice at the wedding ceremony of his aide, Mr. Binaebi Okpofabiri, and former Miss Janet October Lokpobiri, held at the Chief Diepreye Alameiyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, the Governor noted that marriage brings together individuals from different backgrounds and with different personalities, making disagreements inevitable.

He therefore urged the couple to learn to accommodate each other, manage their differences with maturity and make forgiveness a constant part of their relationship.

Governor Diri said: “No two saints are married because we are all human with individual differences. Surely there is bound to be some difference, but your ability to manage these differences is what matters. Cultivate the habit of tolerance and make forgiveness your watchword in your day-to-day living.”

The Governor congratulated the couple and commended their families, friends and well-wishers for coming together to celebrate the union, stressing the importance of supporting loved ones while they are alive.

He also appreciated the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, who served as father of the day, for his contributions to the development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.
