MBO Unity Cup Competition Kicks Off, As 32 Community Teams Battles 5m 1st Prize

The Michael Bless Olomu (MBO) Foundation has kicked off its maiden football tournament, Unity Football Cup Competition in a grand style at the Agbadiowei playground in Mile 3, Sagbama Federated Community under Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The football tournament opening ceremony match between Aduku Football Club and Ebedebiri United, was keenly contested with a one goal win of Ebedebiri United (1-0) against Aduku Football Club at the Agbadiowei playground with an impressive performance.

The unity football cup competition with a total registered number of thirty two (32) football teams cutting across the entire Sagbama Local Government Area, had in attendance of traditional rulers, government officials, women and youths from the local government area and beyond.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the football tournament opening ceremony, Dr. Whiskey Ayakeme commended the Olomu foundation and the organizing team for coming up with the initiative to strengthen peace and unity amongst various communities through football.

He said the football tournament is an avenue for young talented football players to be discovered, creating an enabling environment for future opportunities to be engaged in national and international football teams by the special grace of God.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Football Tournament Organizing Committee, Barr. Francis Kolokolo commended Hon. Michael Bless Olomu for his unrelenting public service to humanity and society as a way of giving back to society from resources available at his disposal.

Barr. Kolokolo who described Olomu as a dependable brother, friend and political ally, said the selfless services and contributions of Olomu towards improving the welfare of the people of Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency over the years, cannot be overemphasized.

“Olomu’s antecedents are very visible even to the blind, as his contributions to humanity and society in terms of humanitarian services, human capital development, infrastructure, education, sports etc, are overwhelming without holding an elective position overtime,” he added.

In his remarks, Hon. Michael Bless Olomu thanked the organizers of the unity football cup competition, most especially, Hon. Yekini Nabena, Barr. Francis Kolokolo and the Coordinators for coming up with the football tournament to further strengthen the unity of the people of Sagbama local government area.

He extended his profound gratitude to the traditional rulers, government officials, stakeholders, women and youths in attendance from far and near to grace the opening ceremony of the football tournament en masse despite their busy schedules.

“Football is a game that fosters peace and unity amongst us as a people, and I am glad to be the sponsor of the football tournament that creates a sense of belonging to the younger generation,” he added.

Few dignitaries who attended the event are: Chief Michael Magbisa, Commissioner Special Duties (Bayelsa West), High Chief Ekisah Sinkuno, Special Adviser to the Governor on Hospitality and Entertainment, Hon. Abeke Jonah, APC Chairman, Sagbama LGA, Engr. Humphrey Highlife, APC Bayelsa State Ex-Officio, and other state, local government and ward executives of the party.

The unity football cup competition continues on Monday, 24th March, 2025, as Angalabiri Football Club battles Agoro United at Ebedebiri town field in Group A, while Kabeama Football Club battles Dominion Football Club at Ogobiri town field in Group B, by 3:30pm prompt.
