NANS Visit: Education Is Number One Priority Of My Govt – Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has received an Award of Excellence titled, “Hero of Nigerian Students” by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Government House, Yenagoa.

Hot News reports that the award was presented to the governor at an expanded 142nd special State Executive Council meeting at the Exco Chambers of Government House.

Governor Diri while appreciating members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), stated that his administration’s key priority is education, as a major sector that directly impacts and contributes to human capital development.

“If you don’t want to invest in education, then invest in prisons. Be prepared to have more people in prison,” Governor Diri added.

“Education is freedom, knowledge and wisdom, and as such, as a prosperity government, our number one priority is education, and that is why we have invested heavily in Science and Technical Colleges in the state to build skills among the students,” he added.

On his remarks, the NANS Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Babatude Afeez, said the award of excellence to the governor, is a recognition, commendation and appreciation for his outstanding performance in the educational sector in the state.

While commending Governor Diri and the prosperity government, Comrade Akinteye said himself and his team were able to visit some of the educational facilities embarked by the prosperity administration, which is quite commendable and impactful.
