PAP 3rd Phase National Chairman Issues Warning To Members Ahead Of Oct 1st Planned Nationwide Protest
The 3rd Phase National Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), General Elaye Slaboh, has issued a stern warning to members and the general public not to participate in the planned nationwide October 1st protest.
The 3rd Phase National Chairman of PAP while cautioning its members and the general public, described the planned nationwide protest as a political motivated protest that does not represent the interest and benefit of the Nigerian population.
Recall that the August nationwide protest that led to the destruction of private and government properties in some parts of the Country, most especially the Northern region, was later extended to October 1st, as Independence Day respectively.
In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of 3rd Phase, Chief Inko Brightstar, the national chairman emphasized the government’s efforts in engaging ex-agitators to be reintegrated into the society through various empowerment schemes.
“We have made significant progress in addressing the challenges and grievances of our people. The best approach to be employed to fight for more benefits from the government is peaceful dialogue and negotiation to maintain peace and stability.
Gen. Slaboh while acknowledging the need and importance of the protest focused on addressing lingering issues facing ex-agitators, warned that any form of violence during the protest will be destructive to the peace and stability in the region.
“We urge those planning to protest to do so peacefully within the bounds of the law, as we are committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the interest of the ex-agitators is prioritized through dialogue, and not confrontation.
The national chairman stated that there has been absolute peace and stability in the Niger Delta region since the introduction of the presidential amnesty programme, which has recorded significant progress and improvement in some socio-economic activities.
“We should understand that the planned nationwide October 1st protest is by the corner, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that adequate measures are in place to maintain peace, law and order, mostly the Niger Delta.
Gen. Slaboh concluded by urging all leaders and stakeholders of the presidential amnesty programme to remain committed and peaceful, stressing that understanding and cooperation plays better roles for continuous progress basically.
