PDP Leaders, Statesmen In Bayelsa Regrets Working For Diri’s Election As Governor, Blames Dickson
Leaders, stakeholders and statesmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State has expressed their total dissatisfaction on the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri over his style of leadership and policy framework in governance since assumption in office in February, 2020.
A party stalwart while addressing some newsmen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, described the Governor Douye Diri led PDP Bayelsa State Government as a government of constant ceremonies and celebrations, instead of delivering good governance to improve the welfare of its citizens.
Governor Douye Diri lack of good leadership attributes for proper engagement of critical stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State, by taking proactive steps in handling internal issues of the party over the years, which has greatly affected the peace and unity among members of the party in the State.
The PDP stalwart stated how the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Henry Seriake Dickson as a Governor under the PDP led Restoration Government gallantly and proactively engaged critical stakeholders of the party in managing internal and external issues of the party for eight years.
Governor Douye Diri’s style of leadership since assumption in office has shown that he lacks the requisite knowledge and experience to manage internal and external issues of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State, which led to the deregisteration and defection of critical stakeholders to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The PDP stalwart stated that most critical stakeholders, leaders and elders of the party are intensely aggrieved and dissatisfied with the manner party members are been treated by Governor Douye Diri, stressing that he has abandoned party members who worked relentlessly for his election, while giving appointments to defectors.
Douye Diri’s lack of requisite ideas, knowledge and experience in leadership and governance towards building a better economic viability and sustainability that will improve the welfare of its citizens in the state, and that will greatly affect the chances of the PDP in winning the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State.
Bayelsa state has been a stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party, mostly in the Southern region of the Country, as a result of the gallantry and proactive measures made by critical stakeholders and statesmen of the party in the state, especially Senator Henry Seriake Dickson who made laudable contributions in building and strengthening the party.
The PDP in Bayelsa State under the watch and leadership of Governor Douye Diri, is a total mess and disappointment, as a result of his inability to engage and recognize critical stakeholders of the party in the State, with the primary objective of building and strengthening the party structure and its support base.
The PDP stalwart stated that elder statesmen and critical stakeholders of the party warned former Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson for Douye Diri’s nomination as his preferred governorship aspirant to fly the party governorship ticket in 2019, stressing that Douye Diri incompetence in leadership was a glaring fact due to his political antecedents.
He added that elder statesmen and critical stakeholders of the party stood firm with the former governor and worked relentlessly towards the victory of Governor Douye Diri, as a result of their respect, loyalty and laudable contributions in building the PDP in Bayelsa State by the former Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson.
Elder statesmen, stakeholders, leaders, supporters of PDP in Bayelsa State, are in a dilapidated state, living with regrets for working for the emergence of Douye Diri as Governor of Bayelsa State under the party platform, adding that the party has never been faced with such prolonged lingering internal party issues in the political history of the party in the State.
The PDP stalwart further expressed fear that the way and manner internal and external party issues are been handled by Governor Douye Diri, the party will face a lot of challenges in winning a reasonable number of state and national assembly seats in the forthcoming general election, including the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.
