Akpe Urges Otakeme Faction To End Leadership Dispute

The Bayelsa State Government has received the final draft constitution of Twon-Brass Kingdom and inaugurated a five-man committee to oversee its ratification process in the kingdom.

Hotnews reports that receiving the document in Government House, Yenagoa, Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe commended the Constitution Drafting Committee and stakeholders for completing the assignment within record time.

Dr. Akpe stressed the need for broad-based consultation and proper ratification by a congress comprising stakeholders from the five communities that make up the kingdom.

He directed that at least 300 copies of the draft be produced and circulated for further study and final inputs before its formal adoption.

The five-man ratification committee, chaired by the member representing Brass Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly, Dr. Charles Daniel, has eight weeks to complete its assignment. Other members are Chief Victor Sam-Ateki, Chief Doigha Eweli, Chief Joseph Laderi and Chief Golden Sintei.

In a related development, Dr. Akpe appealed to the warring factions in Otakeme Community, Ogbia Local Government Area, to sheathe their swords and embrace reconciliation over the lingering leadership dispute concerning the Obanema stool.

He urged the people to place the peace, unity and development of the community above personal interests, while giving the Ogbia Council of Traditional Rulers two months to resolve the crisis and report back to the government.

The Obanobhan of Ogbia Kingdom, King Dimaro Charles-Owaba, commended the state government for its peace efforts and appealed to the people of Otakeme to cooperate with the traditional rulers in finding a lasting traditional solution to the dispute.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Doubara Atasi, representatives of all factions at the meeting expressed their willingness and commitment to work with the Ogbia Council of Traditional Rulers towards resolving the crisis.
