…As Gov. Diri Directs Competition of 500-Bed Hospital in 6months

Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has directed the immediate completion of the abandoned 500-bed hospital in Yenagoa within the next six (6) months for improved healthcare services to Bayelsans and residents.

Governor Diri speaking at the inauguration of the Hemodialysis Centre and General Outpatient Hospital at the Bayelsa Medical University, directed the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe to submit a proposal on the 500-bed hospital for approval.

“The 500-bed hospital was conceived by my predecessors. It was initiated by the first civilian Governor of Bayelsa State, Late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha of blessed memory, while Dr Goodluck Jonathan built on it, and Senator Seriake Dickson converted it to Bayelsa Medical University,” the governor added.

The state helmsman stated that the prosperity government has invested so much in the hospital and the medical university in terms of buildings, classrooms and sick bays after assumption in office in 2020.

“I hereby direct the Commissioner for Health and the Vice Chancellor of the Bayelsa Medical University to make this 500-bed hospital operational in six months,” the governor added.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, who inaugurated the Hemodialysis Centre while making remarks, commended Governor Douye Diri for investing in the health sector.

The honorable minister said he was touched by the respect the governor accords to his predecessors as government is continuity, and appreciates him for building on what they have done in the hospital.

Prof. Pate assures more synergy between the Federal Government and the Bayelsa State Government for improved healthcare services to Bayelsans and Nigerians at large.

Other dignitaries who attended the event are: Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Member representing Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Chief Fred Agbedi, Member representing Nembe-Brass Federal Constituency, Hon. Marie Ebikake, Member representing Southern-Ijaw Federal Constituency, Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei.

Also in attendance was the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Leader of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Obolo-Bubou, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, State Executive Council Members, Local Government Council Chairmen and other top government functionaries.
