Senator Dickson Visits SGF, Senator George Akume, Discusses Ecological Challenges In Niger Delta & Ijaw Nation
The Former Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, CON, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, in his office at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Former Governor and Senator made this known through his official facebook handle, described the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as an elder brother and statesman with great services.
Senator Dickson discussed pertinent issues affecting the people of the Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation, especially ecological challenges facing coastal communities, which are constantly under erosion destroying homes and livelihoods of residents over the years basically.
He emphasized the important need for gradual, firm and sustainable support from the Ecological Funds in addressing the environmental issues affecting coastal communities with utmost priority and consideration.
Due to his unwavering commitment in proffering lasting solutions to the issues of the Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation, Senator Dickson stated his readiness and preparedness in discussing with federal ministries, intervention agencies and other stakeholders to proffer solutions.
He added that the coastal communities, especially Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta and the entire Ijaw nation, are in great need of urgent attention and intervention from the federal government and other intervention agencies to ameliorate the people’s sufferings.
The statement reads: “In continuation of our services to the people, I visited my elder brother and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, Senator George Akume, CON, in his office. We discussed issues affecting our people, especially the ecological challenges facing our coastal communities, which are constantly under erosion.
“I emphasised on the need for a gradual, firm, and sustainable support from the Ecological fund which should give the issues affecting coastal communities serious consideration, and I will also be discussing with federal ministries especially Ministry of Works, State Governments, and development agencies like Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and other stakeholders.
“Our coastal communities especially in Bayelsa, the Niger Delta and the entire nation are in need of attention.
