World Bank $4m Will Boost Education, Health – Gov Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has assured residents that the $4 million reward earned from the World Bank under its HOPE Governance Programme will be prudently utilised to strengthen the state’s education, health and local government sectors.

Hotnews reports that speaking during the 190th State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri stated that the performance-based incentive is a testament to his administration’s sustained investments and reforms in critical sectors in the state.

He noted that the funds would further improve service delivery and deepen ongoing development initiatives of the prosperity government in the state.

The Governor also highlighted the impact of reforms in the local government system, stating that councils that previously struggled to pay workers’ salaries are now meeting salary obligations while executing infrastructure projects.

Presenting details of the award, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Treasury and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulo, explained that Bayelsa qualified for the incentive after meeting the World Bank’s performance benchmarks.

He disclosed that the state earned $1.5 million each for reforms in education and health, $500,000 for local government reforms, and another $500,000 for preparing a citizens’ budget, bringing the total reward to $4 million.

Governor Diri reaffirmed the prosperity government’s unwavering commitment to transparent governance, assuring Bayelsans that the funds would be deployed to further strengthen the education and healthcare sectors.
