2023 Bayelsa Gubernatorial Election: Tension In Bayelsa PDP, As Alaibe Bought PDP Governorship Form To Battle Party Ticket With Gov. Diri

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State encounters setback as a party stalwart bought the party governorship form to join the race to contest the party primary election with the seating governor under the party platform in the State.

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Timi Alaibe has bought the party governorship form to contest the November 11th gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.

Alaibe who has a strong grassroot support base in various local government areas across the state, as a result of his philanthropic nature and developmental projects while in the commission has took the bull by the horn to battle the PDP governorship ticket with the seating governor.

The purchase of the PDP governorship form by Chief Timi Alaibe is a big blow and threat to the seating governor under the party platform, Governor Douye Diri; who is seeking for second tenure in the November 11th gubernatorial election in the State.

Alaibe’s governorship ambition has further created so much tension in the PDP in Bayelsa State, which has teared up the party into different factions as critical stakeholders of the party declare their total support for his governorship ambition.

Record shows that the governorship aspirant who is popularly known as youths leader has contested several governorship elections in the state, which seem to be almost every political season under different political party platforms without clinching the governorship ticket.

Hotnews gathered that the seating governor who is serving under the PDP in the state, pleaded with the governorship aspirant to withdraw from contesting the November 11th gubernatorial election under the party platform, but ended with deadlock.

There seems to be so much tension in the PDP in the state, as the party is segregated into different factions as some members of the party drum support for the regular governorship aspirant while others drum support for the seating governor for second tenure in November 11th.

The battle line has been drawn for the two PDP governorship aspirants as they prepare towards clinching the party governorship ticket on the 27th of March to the 17th of April, 2023, according to the party’s time-table by the national working committee.
