N34B Toru-Orua/Toru-Ebeni Road: Diri Should Be Bold Enough To Tell Bayelsans The Truth That He Only Remobilized The Contractor To Site – APC Publicity Secretary.

…Says The Project was Awarded and under Construction by the Previous Government.

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Comrade Preye Bagou has condemned in strong terms of the insincerity and deceptiveness of the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri on projects.

The Prosperity Government led by Governor Douye Diri has overtime made Bayelsans to believe that the prosperity government is responsible for the initiation and completion of major projects commissioned by his administration which are projects of the previous administration.

Bagou while addressing newsmen of hotnews in Yenagoa the state capital expressed displeasure over the claim of ownership of laudable projects initiated and almost completed by the previous administration, as projects of the current administration led by Governor Douye Diri.

“It is necessary and pertinent to note that there is continuity in governance mostly in terms of projects which the current administration has done very well, but there is a great need to set the record straight of projects initiated and the level of work done before the current administration.

The Toru-Orua, Bulou-orua Kabeama, Amatolo Okumbiri and Toru-ebeni road project is a project initiated by the previous administration, which was awarded to a construction company (HMG Nigeria Limited) and a great level of work had been done before Toru-Orua to Bulou-Orua before the current administration.

Bagou stated that Governor Douye Diri should be bold enough to tell Bayelsans the truth that he only remobilized the old contractor to site to continue the road project, and not a fresh project as proclaimed by the governor with a huge cost in order to embezzle the funds.

Hotnews gathered that all the concerned communities were fully compensated with proper information of the commencement of the laudable road project starting from the clearing to the sand filling of the project by the previous administration led by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

The Prosperity Government led by Governor Douye Diri while trying to undermine legacy projects of the previous government, reawarded the Toru-Orua to Toru-Ebeni link road project that had been awarded by the previous government with deliberate intentions of taking the glory of the project, as a project initiated by his administration.

Gov. Diri to get cheap accolade of performance from the general public deliberately reawarded a road project that had been awarded and under construction by the previous government to the same contractor of the previous government with a huge sum of N34 billion naira regardless of the level of work done.

Bagou who personally inspected the road project to get first hand information on the level of work done by the previous administration stated that the road project is only a continuation and not a fresh project as proclaimed by the Governor Douye Diri led prosperity government.

“It is important to note that clearing and sand filling has been completed including bridges under construction from Toru-Orua to Bulou-Orua before the current administration, stressing that it’s totally an act of deceit for the governor to reaward a project under construction making it to look like a fresh project.

Bagou stated categorically that his intentions are not to sing praises of the previous administration, but only setting the record straight to educate the general public considering the huge amount of money allocated for the project, which does not commensurate the project with the level of work done.

The huge amount of money for the project does not commensurate the cost of the project with the level of work done by the previous administration, which indicates that the governor’s primary objective of reawarding the road project is aimed at siphoning major part of the money for his reelection.

There is nothing wrong in completing projects of previous administrations, but reawarding and claiming projects initiated and almost completed in previous administrations by the current administration in bid to impress Bayelsans of performance must be condemned in strong terms.
