A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port-harcourt has issued an interim injunction restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting the party’s South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar, the Cross-River State capital.

Hot News reports that the PDP south-south zonal congress was scheduled to hold on Saturday, 22nd of February, 2025, in Calabar, Cross-River State, Nigeria.

In another interesting event, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has earlier suspended the National Vice Chairman of the Party in South-South, Dan Orbih.

The Presiding Judge, Justice G.V. Obomanu ruled in favor of the claimants, following submissions by their counsel, Emeka D.A. Ojoko.

The court ordered the defendants, along with their agents and representatives, to halt any preparations for the congress until the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.

The order also mandates all parties involved to maintain the status quo as of February 20, 2025, pending further court proceedings.

Additionally, the court granted the claimants permission to serve legal documents on the PDP and Orbih through substituted means, including posting notices at the South-South Zonal Headquarters in Port Harcourt and publishing the notice in a widely read national newspaper.

The case has been adjourned to February 28, 2025, for a hearing on the Motion on Notice. This ruling temporarily puts a hold on the PDP’s internal electoral process in the South-South region, raising questions about the party’s leadership structure in the zone.
