Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, has charged political office holders in the eight local government councils to prioritise service delivery and use their positions to make meaningful impact at the grassroots.

Hotnews reports that Dr. Akpe gave the charge on Tuesday during an enlarged meeting with council chairmen, principal officers, legislators, political secretaries and supervisory councillors at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

He urged councillors to regard their positions as opportunities to serve the people and prepare themselves for greater responsibilities in public service, stressing that every political appointment was both a privilege and a test of leadership.

The Deputy Governor advised members of the legislative arms to avoid unnecessary disagreements and work harmoniously with their respective chairmen to advance development in their councils.

He also called on the political office holders to strengthen their presence at the grassroots by delivering the dividends of democracy and actively mobilising their communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, securing their polling units and wards should be viewed as a personal responsibility to the political system rather than merely an assignment for party candidates.

Dr. Akpe further urged the councillors to support the forthcoming 30th anniversary of Bayelsa State by sensitising residents in their communities and encouraging participation in the “Bayelsa at 30” celebrations.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor’s Office, Comrade Gowon Toruyouyei; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule; Technical Adviser to the Governor on Treasury and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulu; chairmen of the eight local government councils and other officials.
