Akpe Commends Gov Diri, Organizers For Successful 2026 Edition Of Gov’S Cup
Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, has expressed satisfaction with the successful organization of the 2026 edition of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup, describing the tournament as a major platform for youth development, sportsmanship, peace and unity across the state.
Dr. Akpe made the commendation while speaking at the ongoing sporting event in Yenagoa, where he applauded the level of participation, organization, and enthusiasm displayed by athletes, officials, and supporters from different local government areas of the state.
The Deputy Governor particularly commended his boss, the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment, noting that the Governor’s Cup has continued to serve as a breeding ground for discovering talents capable of representing the state and the nation at higher levels of competition.
According to him, the Prosperity Administration under Governor Diri has consistently demonstrated its passion for grassroots sports development through sustained investments in sporting facilities, youth engagement programmes, and talent discovery initiatives aimed at keeping young people positively engaged.
Dr. Akpe stated that the 2026 Governor’s Cup has once again showcased the abundant sporting talents in Bayelsa State, adding that the competition has helped strengthen unity and peaceful coexistence among youths from different communities.
He emphasized that sports remain a veritable tool for social integration and youth empowerment, stressing that the state government would continue to create opportunities for young athletes to excel and pursue professional careers in sports.
The Deputy Governor further praised the organizers, coaches, match officials, security agencies, and participating teams for ensuring a smooth and hitch-free tournament, urging the athletes to continue to exhibit discipline, fairness, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Dr. Akpe reaffirmed the commitment of the Bayelsa State Government to sustaining the Governor’s Cup and other sporting programmes that will promote excellence and positively engage the youths.
