Fresh Details Emerge Over Uzodimma, Mbah Leadership Progressive Governors Forum

There is growing uncertainty within the Progressive Governors Forum following widespread reports that Peter Mbah of Enugu State, had emerged as the new Chairman of the influential political bloc under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The reports, which surfaced late Thursday night after a closed-door meeting in Abuja, claimed that Mbah replaced Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the forum made up of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to multiple media accounts, the alleged leadership shake-up occurred during an extraordinary meeting attended by about 20 governors at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The reports suggested that divisions had emerged among APC governors over the direction of the forum ahead of the 2027 political calculations.

Sources cited in the reports alleged that several governors backed the move to replace Uzodimma, while another bloc insisted that the Imo governor should remain in office.

The development immediately fueled speculation of internal disagreements and possible political realignments within the ruling party.

The controversy intensified because the reported development came only hours after Uzodimma publicly represented APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja. Observers viewed the timing as politically significant, especially as the ruling party gradually positions itself for the 2027 elections.

However, the leadership of the forum swiftly moved to dismiss the reports as false.

In an official statement issued Thursday night, the Director-General of the PGF, Folorunso Aluko, denied that any meeting was held to remove Uzodimma from office. He described the reports as “false and misleading,” insisting that the Imo State governor remains the authentic chairman of the forum.

According to the statement, the PGF secretariat had no record of any resolution removing Uzodimma, stressing that the forum remained united and committed to its responsibilities. The statement also urged party members and the general public to disregard what it termed unfounded speculation.

Despite the official denial, the reports have continued to generate intense political conversations across the country, particularly because of the mention of Peter Mbah as a possible replacement.

Political analysts believe the situation reflects ongoing power negotiations within the APC and among governors ahead of future political contests.

Meanwhile, aides close to Governor Mbah reportedly said they were unaware of any formal emergence of the Enugu governor as PGF chairman, adding further uncertainty to the situation.

The development has since sparked reactions across political circles, with many interpreting the incident as evidence of growing tensions and competing interests within the ruling party’s governors’ forum.

As of Friday, Uzodimma continued to function officially as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, even as conflicting reports and behind-the-scenes consultations persisted among governors and party stakeholders across the country.
