Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, has commended the chiefs, elders, women and youths of Yenezue-Gene Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area for the peaceful conduct of the election of a new paramount ruler.

Hotnews reports that Dr. Akpe made the commendation on Thursday when he received a report on the election from the Obenibe of Epie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Mala Sasime, at the Government House, Yenagoa.

The Deputy Governor appreciated King Sasime and other stakeholders of Epie Kingdom for their roles in ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully, transparently and in line with the directive of the state government.

He said the successful resolution of the chieftaincy matter demonstrated the monarch’s commitment to peace and development, assuring that the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs would commence the processing of the Certificate of Recognition and Staff of Office for the paramount ruler-elect ahead of his coronation.

Earlier, King Sasime disclosed that the election, held on August 22, 2026, was peaceful and hitch-free, with Chief Fortune Magnus emerging as the paramount ruler-elect and Chief Nothing-Bad Dagana as his deputy.

The monarch commended the other contestants, including Chief Fabiri Manager, Chief Ozekieh Oyaba and Chief Egba James, for their sportsmanship, urging all stakeholders to support the new leadership for the development of the community.

King Sasime also thanked the Bayelsa State Government for creating the enabling environment for the election, expressing optimism that lasting peace and good governance would return to Yenezue-Gene Community after years without a paramount ruler.
