The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, doubled as the Publicity Secretary of APC National Youth Council South-South Zone, Comr Preye Bagou, has accused the Prosperity Government led by Governor Douye Diri of politicizing relief materials to flood victims across the State.
Bagou while addressing some newsmen in Yenagoa the state capital, condemned the politicization of the relief materials to flood victims in various Local Government Areas across the State, stressing that not only members of the People’s Democratic Party in the State are affected by the devasting flood situation but, almost all well-meaning Bayelsan irrespective of party affiliation.
“Relief materials distributed to the greatly affected various Local Government Areas under the directive of the Governor was shared among members of the People’s Democratic Party, neglecting and depriving members of the All Progressives Congress, with the opinion that the honourable minister of state for petroleum resources should make such provisions.
Bagou who personally visited some Communities in Sagbama Local Government Area to confirm the story condemned the politicization of the relief materials for the flood victims, stressing that the Governor used state funds for the purchase of the relief materials, and not personal funds which shouldn’t be politicized by the Governor and members of the PDP.
“Investigations indicate that some Communities were given one bag of rice, one bag of beans and one carton of indomie to be shared to all affected persons of the flood in the whole Community, stressing that some Wards got three bags of rice, three bags of beans and three cartons of indomie to be shared among affected Communities in some Local Government Areas.
Bagou condemningly stated categorically that Governor Douye Diri released only two hundred and fifty million naira (250,000,000.00) out of the approved four hundred and fifty million naira (450,000,000.00) to reduce the pains and sufferings of well-meaning Bayelsans affected by the devasting flood situation in various Local Government Areas across the State.
He further described Douye Diri as a governor that lacks the requisite experience, knowledge and ideas to proactively carry out measures that will improve the well-being of Bayelsans, taking a deep reflection of the Governor’s inability to set up internally displaced persons camps across the State, despite the notification by National Emergency Management Agency.
Bagou appealed to the Federal Government, NDDC, PAP and other Federal Parastatals to come to the aid of members of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, who have being deprived of relief materials made available using state resources in the purchase of the relief materials, adding that APC members are suffering in the State.
