The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Comrade Preye Bagou has called for the immediate removal of the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Maj-Gen Barry Ndiomu (Rtd).

Bagou made this known while addressing newsmen of Hot News in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, described Ndiomu’s appointment as a wasted opportunity to the people of Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta region at large.

“Ndiomu’s appointment as interim administrator of the presidential amnesty programme came at a time when the people of the Niger Delta region were yearning for good policies, programs and leadership in the federal intervention agency that will better the lives of the people of region.

The primary objective of the establishment of the presidential amnesty programme was to address the yearnings of the people of the Niger Delta region due to high rate of militancy, terrorism, violence etc in the region, which greatly affected oil production and other economic activities in the region.

Bagou stated that there was prompt payment of monthly stipends to beneficiaries and scholarship students of the presidential amnesty programme by previous administrations, but the reverse is the circumstance under Maj-Gen Barry Ndiomu’s leadership and management.

“The presidential amnesty programme under Ndiomu’s leadership and management has encountered a lot of setbacks, ranging from removal of beneficiaries, late payment of beneficiaries monthly stipends, stoppage of scholarship programs, continuous verification exercises etc.

Bagou stated that the amnesty interim administrator has turned the federal intervention agency to a political party empowerment platform, where all the appointments under his office are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while neglecting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“There has been series of protests by beneficiaries of the presidential amnesty programme due to poor management and performance of the current interim administrator, stressing that beneficiaries has never been treated this bad since the inception of the federal intervention agency.

“The federal intervention agency is expected to make tremendous progress in subsequent leadership and management rather than retrogressing in addressing issues of the people of the Niger Delta region, mostly the current leadership and management.

Bagou called on the President-elect, His Excellency, Bola Tinubu to sack the Interim Administrator, Maj-Gen Barry Ndiomu (Rtd) after assumption in office as the President of the Federal of Nigeria on the 29th of May, 2023.

He further appealed to the incoming administration led by His Excellency, Bola Tinubu to replace the current interim administrator with a party man who understands the game of politics and political leadership to restructure the programme for the benefit of the people of the Niger Delta region.
