Bagou Applauds Gov. Diri On 60mw Gas Turbine Project

A Yenagoa-based Journalist and Public Commentator, as well as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hotnews, Mr. Preye Bagou, has commended the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, over the construction of the 60mw gas turbine project, describing it as a strategic investment capable of transforming the economy of the State.

Hotnews reports that Bagou said the power project was a bold and forward-looking initiative by the Prosperity Administration, noting that reliable electricity supply remained critical to the growth of businesses, industries and other economic activities across Bayelsa State.

According to him, the 60MW gas turbine project has the potential to significantly reduce the challenges associated with inadequate electricity supply, particularly in Yenagoa, the state capital, where businesses and residents require dependable power to operate efficiently.

He said the impact of the project was already being felt by residents and businesses in Yenagoa, with steady electricity supply following the completion of the facility.

Bagou also commended the state government for the distribution and installation of electricity meters at no cost to residents, describing the initiative as an important step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in electricity billing.

He noted that the metering system would help consumers monitor their electricity consumption while reducing concerns associated with estimated billing.

The Hotnews boss said the combination of improved power supply and a transparent metering system could create a more conducive environment for small and medium-scale enterprises, commercial establishments and other businesses to thrive.

He stressed that businesses required a stable operating environment to grow, create employment and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy, adding that access to reliable electricity was a major component of such an environment.

Bagou further praised Governor Diri for what he described as the administration’s commitment to major road infrastructure across the state.

He specifically highlighted the ongoing and completed interventions on the Nembe-Brass Road, Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie Road and the Sagbama-Ekeremor Senatorial Road, describing the projects as strategic infrastructure that would improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities in different parts of Bayelsa.

According to him, the importance of the roads goes beyond transportation, as improved connectivity would enhance the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and services while opening up communities and creating opportunities for investment.

He said the Nembe-Brass Road, in particular, would have far-reaching economic significance by improving access to communities in the area and strengthening the connection between the people and commercial centres.

Bagou also noted that the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie and Sagbama-Ekeremor roads would contribute to the integration of communities across the state, making movement easier and supporting the development of previously underserved areas.

He urged Bayelsans to appreciate the long-term value of the projects, saying that infrastructure development was a gradual process whose benefits would continue to accrue to present and future generations.

The journalist said Governor Diri deserved commendation for prioritising projects that directly affect the daily lives and economic wellbeing of the people, particularly in the areas of electricity and transportation.

He called on the state government to sustain its investment in critical infrastructure and ensure that the various projects were properly maintained after completion.

Bagou maintained that the combination of reliable electricity, improved road networks and other social and economic infrastructure would strengthen Bayelsa’s position as an attractive destination for businesses and investors.
