Bayelsa Govt Extends Teachers Retirement Age To 65Years

The Bayelsa State Government has approved the extension of Primary and Secondary school teachers retirement age to sixty five years, following the Teachers Retirement Age Bill, 2025 being passed into Law.
Hot News gathered that the Teachers Retirement Age Bill, 2025, which was recently passed into Law by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has been signed into Law by Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
By the provisions of the Teachers Retirement Age Law, 2025, primary and secondary school teachers in the state shall retire at the age of 65years or 40years of pensionable service for effective performance.
The new teachers retirement age law, exceeds the Public Service Rules that requires primary and secondary school teachers to retire from public service at the age of 60years or 35years of public service retirement.
The new law also accommodates technical instructors who teaches vocational subjects or courses in primary and secondary schools, colleges, including headmasters and headmistresses that possess teaching qualifications basically.
The Teachers Retirement Age Law, 2025, is a deliberate effort of the Senator Douye Diri’s administration in improving the educational sector towards achieving academic excellence in public schools in the state.
