Breaking News: Court Declares Sen. Bassey Otu As APC Gubernatorial Candidate In Cross-River State

A Federal High Court in Calabar Cross-River State, has declared Senator Prince Bassey Otu as the authentic Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Cross-River State, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Recall that a Governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Owan Enoh in a suit approached the court seeking for the disqualification of Senator Bassey Otu as the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Cross-River State.

The Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu made the declaration while delivering judgment in the suit in Calabar, the State Capital.

Justice Ojukwu in her ruling stated categorically that a candidate contesting for the office of a Governor must be a Nigerian, and meet the stipulated age requirement and have basic qualification according to the constitution.

Justice Ojukwu further stated that the matter of determination of a governorship candidate of a political party is, and still remains the right of a political party, according to the constitution of political parties and the Nigerian constitution.

Following Justice Ojukwu judgment, the issue of the APC governorship candidate in Cross-River State in the forthcoming general elections has been put to rest, after several months of speculations that caused a lot of division in the Cross-River State APC.

A reliable source reveals that the party and the governorship candidate will swing into action immediately to make proper preparations for the commencement of campaigns in no distant time, as the 2023 general elections draws closer.
