Gov Diri Mandates 6-Man Reconciliation Committee To Restore Peace, Unity In INC

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has constituted and inaugurated a six-man reconciliation committee for the Ijaw National Congress (INC), with a mandate to resolve lingering disputes to restore peace and unity within the apex Ijaw socio-cultural purpose-driven prestigious institution.

Hotnews reports that the inauguration ceremony held in Government House, Yenagoa, underscored the governor’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and cohesion among the Ijaw people amid growing concerns over divisions and conflicting interests within the socio-cultural prestigious institution.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Diri charged the committee members to rise above personal interests and sentiments in carrying out their assignment.

He urged them to engage all aggrieved parties and stakeholders across the various blocs within the INC in order to restore harmony and strengthen the collective identity of the Ijaw nation.

The governor stressed that the task before the committee was not merely administrative but one of historical importance aimed at preserving the values and ideals handed down by the founding fathers of the organization.

According to him, the committee’s recommendations must be transparent, inclusive, fair, and acceptable to all parties involved, adding that the unity of the Ijaw people remains paramount to the political and socio-economic aspirations of the Niger Delta region.

Governor Diri emphasized that internal divisions only weaken the strength and influence of the Ijaw nation, while unity and collective purpose would position the people for greater progress and development.

“The strength of the Ijaw Nation is not in the loudness of our disputes, but in our unity,” the governor stated.

The six-member reconciliation committee is made up of respected elder statesmen and distinguished personalities drawn from the three senatorial zones of the Ijaw nation.

Representing the Eastern Zone are Dr. Goddy Damnabo and former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Gabriel Toby.
From the Western Zone are former Minister of Police Affairs, Brodrick Bozimo, and former President of the INC, Chief J.B. Fumudor.

Representing the Central Zone are former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Matthew Seiyefa, who also serves as chairman of the committee, and former Nigerian Ambassador, Dr. Boladei Igali.

To coordinate the committee’s secretariat are former Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku, and former Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs, Erasmus Patrick.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Matthew Seiyefa expressed appreciation to Governor Diri for the confidence reposed in them, assuring that the committee would approach the assignment with sincerity, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility.

He pledged that members of the committee would work tirelessly to engage all stakeholders and ensure that peace and reconciliation are achieved within the INC for the overall benefit of the Ijaw people.

The event was attended by several top government officials and dignitaries, including Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimbofa Ayawei, Acting Chief of Staff, Mr Irorodamie Komonibo, and other senior government functionaries.
