Diri Receives 11-Man MDCN Accreditation Team

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, received an 11-man accreditation team from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) led by Deputy Registrar of the Council, Dr. Nnaemaka Nwakanma, at his residence in Government House, Yenagoa.

The medical and dental council team visited the Governor for the inspection of medical facilities at both the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island and Bayelsa Medical University for the purpose of accreditation of more medical programmes in the two institutions.

Senator Diri, who appreciated Dr. Nwakanma and his team for the timely visit, said the current administration has made tremendous investment in the health sector, and will continue to improve facilities in the schools to increase admission quota.

In his remarks, Dr. Nwakanma thanked the Governor and the government for the tremendous investment in the health sector which is evident even to the blind as a major sector for sustainable growth and development in the state.

He commented the government’s unwavering commitment and dedication in collaborating with the relevant medical authorities like the medical and dental council of Nigeria to ensure the accreditation of all medical courses in the institutions.

Few dignitaries who were in attendance are the Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, Vice Chancellor, Niger Delta University, Prof. Allen Agih and Vice Chancellor, Bayelsa Medical University, Prof. Dimie Ogoina.
