By Preye Bagou
The Construction and Commissioning of the 60-megawatt Gas Turbine Power Plant by the Assured Prosperity Administration of Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, stands as one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in the history of Bayelsa State.
Built to address the longstanding challenge of inadequate electricity supply, the landmark power project is strategically designed to improve access to stable and reliable electricity, stimulate economic growth, and create an enabling environment for businesses and industries across Bayelsa State.
The project was officially commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the celebration of the sixth anniversary of the Prosperity Administration in April 2026, underscoring its significance as a major milestone in the state’s development agenda.
For decades, unstable power supply has remained a major obstacle to economic expansion, discouraging investments and increasing the cost of doing business in various States across Nigeria.
Recognizing this challenge, Governor Douye Diri’s administration embarked on the ambitious 60MW Gas Turbine Power Plant project to provide a sustainable solution capable of driving industrialization and improving the quality of life of the people.
The availability of reliable electricity is expected to enhance productivity for small and medium-scale enterprises, attract new investments, support manufacturing activities, improve healthcare delivery, strengthen educational institutions, and encourage the establishment of more commercial ventures across the state.
Beyond its immediate economic benefits, the project represents the administration’s vision of leveraging Bayelsa’s abundant natural gas resources for the direct benefit of its people.
Rather than allowing these resources to remain underutilized, the prosperity government has demonstrated foresight by investing in infrastructure that will deliver lasting economic value and improve living standards.
The 60MW power plant also aligns with Governor Diri’s broader development blueprint, which prioritizes critical infrastructure, economic diversification, industrial growth, and sustainable development.
By ensuring a more dependable electricity supply, the administration is laying the foundation for increased job creation, improved entrepreneurship, and enhanced competitiveness for businesses operating within the state.
The commissioning of the project by President Tinubu further highlighted its national importance and reinforced confidence in Bayelsa’s growing reputation as a destination for investment and economic opportunities.
As the Assured Prosperity Administration continues to execute people-oriented projects, the 60-megawatt Gas Turbine Power Plant remains a shining example of purposeful leadership and strategic planning.
The landmark project reflects Governor Douye Diri’s unwavering commitment to creating a conducive business environment, accelerating socio-economic development, and positioning Bayelsa State on the path of sustainable growth and prosperity.
With this landmark investment, the Prosperity Government has not only expanded the state’s infrastructure but has also laid a solid foundation for a brighter economic future where businesses can thrive, investors can operate with confidence, and citizens can enjoy the benefits of improved electricity and enhanced development.
