I Remain Speaker Of Lagos State Assembly, I Have Resumed – Obasa Declares
By Preye Bagou, Yenagoa
In a dramatic twist at the Lagos State House of Assembly, the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that he has resumed his position as the head of the parliament despite his impeachment.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, made a bold return to the Assembly complex on Thursday, accompanied by heavily armed security operatives, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Speaking to journalists shortly after his arrival, Obasa insisted that he remains the legitimate Speaker of the Assembly.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa asserted, defying his impeachment and raising questions about the political dynamics within the legislative chamber.
His return has sparked tension within the House, as lawmakers and political observers await the response of the Assembly leadership.
This development signals potential power struggles and legal battles over the legitimacy of his claim to the Speakership.
