Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State.

Hotnews reports that the announcement was made in a press statement dated May 22, 2026, and signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh. According to the statement, Senator Omo-Agege’s resignation takes immediate effect.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, the former deputy senate president explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders.

Omo-Agege stated that after carefully assessing recent political developments within the APC in Delta State, he concluded that his political aspirations and the interests of his constituents would be better pursued outside the party structure.

The former lawmaker, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, expressed dissatisfaction with the current political environment within the APC in Delta State.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he declared.

The resignation signals a major shift in Delta politics, considering Omo-Agege’s influence within the APC and his role as one of the party’s leading figures in the South-South region.

Despite his departure from the APC, Omo-Agege expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it afforded him, particularly his emergence as Deputy President of the Senate during the 9th National Assembly.

“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he stated.

The former senator reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria, stressing that his political mission remains focused on effective representation, growth, and service to the people.

He further noted that he would continue to pursue these objectives outside the APC, although he did not immediately disclose his next political platform or future plans.

Omo-Agege, who also holds the traditional title of Obarisi of Urhoboland, remains one of the most prominent political figures from Delta State.

His resignation is expected to generate reactions across political circles, especially within the APC and among opposition parties positioning ahead of future elections.

Stakeholders has described that the development could reshape the balance of power in Delta State politics, particularly within the Urhobo political bloc, where Omo-Agege commands significant grassroots influence.

The statement was signed by Sunday Areh, Media Adviser to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
