S’Court Verdict: Group Congratulates Diri, Ewhrudjakpo, Calls For Bayelsans Support
The Agoro Progressive Youths Forum (APYF) has congratulated Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo on their well-deserved victory in Supreme Court on Friday.
In a congratulatory statement issued by the group Coordinator, Comrade Preye Bagou, described the Supreme Court judgment as a further declaration of the people’s collective decision on the 2023 November 11th gubernatorial election in the state.
The Supreme Court in a judgment on Friday, 23rd of August, 2024, dismissed the appeal of the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, challenging the victory of Governor Douye Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the gubernatorial election.
hotnewsng.org reported that the lead judgment delivered by Justice Garba Lawal, held that the appeal by the former Governor of the State, Chief Timipre Sylva and the APC, was not only lacking merit, but a gross abuse of the court process respectively.
The unanimous decision of the apex court, upheld the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Bayelsa State Election Petition Tribunal, declaring Senator Douye Diri as the duly elected Governor of Bayelsa State, in the 2023 November 11th gubernatorial election in the state.
The group while congratulating the Governor, his Deputy and the PDP, described the well-deserved victory in the apex court as a victory for all Bayelsans, regardless of party affiliation, as it was a collective resolve of Bayelsans on the day of the gubernatorial election basically.
“The Supreme Court judgment is a reaffirmation of well-meaning Bayelsans unwavering support for Governor Douye Diri and the PDP, as the judgment reflects the collective decision of the people on the day of the 2023 gubernatorial election.
The group Coordinator, Comrade Preye Bagou, called on all Bayelsans regardless of party affiliation to support Governor Douye Diri and the Prosperity Government in attracting more infrastructural development to the state, for the betterment of all.
“The time for politics is over, and it is time for governance, and as such, let’s support the government in improving various sectors of the state, as the development of the state is a collective responsibility of all Bayelsans for a more conducive living environment and welfare.
Bagou said that the restoration and prosperity governments has changed the infrastructural development of the state, as focused and visionary administrations aimed at changing the narrative of governance in the state, by consciously embarking on laudable socio-economic projects.
He added that the Senator Diri-led prosperity government is making deliberate efforts and improvements in various sectors, most especially road infrastructure, connecting the rural areas to the state capital with the aim of boosting socio-economic activities in the state basically.
